The Korean 10-Step Skincare Beauty Routine

Hello friends 😊, today we would like to introduce the Korean Beauty 10 step skincare routine and elaborate on the different steps. Note that as you read through it, you will realize that not all ten steps must be used daily. Normally, a 5 or 7 step personalized routine should be more than sufficient. In saying that, every now and again we do like to give our skin the full 10 step treatment to let it indulge and maximize the benefits from our skincare products. Therefore, without further ado, we present to you the K-beauty 10 step routine:

Step One: Oil Cleanser

The first step of a two-step cleansing combo. Apply an Oil-based Cleanser to dry skin to remove any makeup, sunscreen and excess sebum off your skin.

Step Two: Foam Cleanser

Foam Cleanser is then applied to wet skin and further removes impurities such as dirt and sweat. By using the double cleanse method, you will be sure to remove all impurities from your skin which will reduce the chances of a breakout occurring.

Step Three: Exfoliate

Exfoliating helps to slough off all your dead skin cells on top of cleaning out your pores. This will reveal brighter, younger looking skin that will be ready for all your skincare products to come. Target areas such as your nose and cheeks where the pores are generally more visible. This step is not recommended for daily use as over-exfoliating can lead to increased levels of skin dryness and irritation. (Look to do it once a week if you have sensitive skin and about 2-3 times a week for other skin types).

Step Four: Toner

As your skin has just gone through many stages of cleansing, it can be feeling slightly fragile and dehydrated. Using the toner in this following step will help to rehydrate and refresh your skin. It also preps your skin ready for your following skincare products as well as resetting the skin’s pH balance.

Step Five: Essence

Essences are like serums and ampoules but with a waterier consistency. They have multiple purposes including hydrating your skin, improving your skin’s tone and texture and preventing/slowing the signs of aging. They may also help the rate of cellular turnover to reveal skin that looks younger and brighter.

Step Six: Treatments (serum, boosters and ampoules)

This step is not for everyone. Treatments are packed with potent ingredients that will help to address skin issues such as hyperpigmentation and acne. Use accordingly to address your skin concerns. If you have no major skin concerns, you can choose to skip this step as the use of essence and a face sheet mask should provide you with more than enough hydration and nourishment for your skin.

Step Seven: Face Sheet Mask

This step is a step that does not need to be completed every night. Using a face sheet mask 2-3 times a week should be sufficient. Pick a sheet mask that is suitable for your skin type and addresses your current skin concerns. The Sheet Mask will adhere snugly to your face and allow direct transfer of nutrients to your skin for maximum benefit. For our recommendations on using a face sheet masks, check out our previous blog.

Step Eight: Eye Cream

Different eye creams will target different skin concerns around the eyes. Brightening dark circles, reducing puffiness and improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles are just a few issues that you may choose to address. The skin around the eyes is delicate, so be careful to not tug or pull when applying your eye cream. Instead, use your ring finger or pinkie to dab the cream onto your skin.

Step Nine: Face Cream (Moisturizer)

This step utilizes a face moisturizer to lock in the all the goodness that you have delivered to your skin. Moisturizes come in different forms including creams, lotions, gels and sleeping masks. Pick a moisturizing form that is suitable for your skin. Keeping the skin hydrated is key to reducing fine lines and keeping your skin soft and supple.

Step Ten: SPF (Sunscreen)

Sunscreen should be worn daily to help prevent premature aging of skin, not to mention it also reduces the risk of skin cancer. Sunscreen is always the last step of the skincare routine. You can choose to apply normal sunscreen or BB creams and cushion compacts that have SPF.

We ended up personalizing and compacting the 10-step routine to align with our skin goals and make it less time consuming on most days. However, Sundays are our wind down days and we like to complete the whole process on these days to prepare ourselves for the following week. If you have tried the Korean 10 Step Routine before, please let us know what you thought of it. However, if you have not attempted it, then maybe have a go and see what you make of it 😊

Yours truly,

Lila Beauty 💜
